PESP2008

Workshop on Sources of Polarized Electrons and High Brightness Electron Beams
October 1-3, 2008
Jefferson Lab, Newport News, VA

Note: SPIN2008 hosted by University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, October 6 - 11, 2008

Proceedings Submissions

Dear PESP2008 Contributors,

It's time to start writing your PESP2008 paper. PESP2008 Proceedings will be published as part of the SPIN2008 Proceedings, by the American Institute of Physics (AIP) in print and electronic versions that will be identical. Instructions for authors, templates and other information can be found at http://proceedings.aip.org/proceedings/authors.jsp. We will use the 6 x 9 inch format.

After speaking with Dr. Don Crabb of the University of Virginia and chair of SPIN2008, we think it is best that you send me your paper in original Latex or MS Word file format, along with a pdf version, and I will organize all PESP papers into one file and forward to him. In addition, all authors must complete and sign an AIP Copyright Transfer agreement available at the AIP website. This form would need to be mailed to me via conventional post.

Speakers and poster presenters are allowed 5 pages and the deadline for submission of your paper to me is

December 31, 2008.

For those of you that attended SPIN, your registration fee covers the cost of the PESP/SPIN Proceedings. For those of you that did not attend SPIN, I am working with Don Crabb to determine what the Proceedings will cost you. I apologize for not having considered this detail when setting PESP registration fees. Of course my intention is to make the Proceedings very affordable. Have I forgotten anything? Please don't hesitate to ask questions.

Best regards,
Matt

Announcements

August 26, 2008

Hi Everyone,

I am pleased to say the PESP Workshop is taking shape, with the promise that it will be a very interesting workshop - thanks for your support. I have attached a draft agenda, we welcome new submissions. If possible, please submit your abstract by September 24 to give us time to create an Abstract booklet in advance of the Workshop.

Other comments;

  1. If you have not already done so, please take a few moments to register for the workshop at the web link below. After September 1, there is a modest price increase.
  2. The Workshop begins Wednesday morning at 9am, October 1. I think for most of you, it makes the most sense to arrive at Newport News on Tuesday September 30. The Workshop ends Friday afternoon at 4 pm, October 3.
  3. The Workshop reception takes place Wednesday evening and dinner/poster session on Thursday evening.
  4. In keeping with tradition, the PESP Workshop proceedings will be published along with SPIN proceedings. Proceedings will be published by the American Institute of Physics. More information to follow (for example, page limit), but it seems likely I will collect all PESP submissions and then forward to the SPIN organizing committee. SPIN organizers want all manuscripts submitted before December 1st, 2008. The proceedings will be in the AIP 6 x 9 format. Details can be found at http://proceedings.aip.org
  5. I am exploring the possibility of providing ground transportation to and from Charlottesville VA, for those planning to attend SPIN the following week. If you would be interested in transportation to SPIN, please send me a note.
  6. We plan for roughly 6 hours of scheduled talks per day - two 3 hour sessions interrupted by coffee breaks. It is reasonable to expect 25 minutes for your presentation, with an extra 5 minutes discussion time.
  7. We envision "working" lunches in the form of roundtable discussions. At the moment, we have these roundtable discussion topics in mind: a) high voltage/field emission/ceramic insulators, b) photocathodes - polarization, charge limit, lifetime, etc., and c) spintronics photocathode materials - how to get this material into a photogun.
  8. We will offer tours of the CEBAF and FEL injectors.

Did I forget anything? Please don't hesitate to ask.

Best regards, and again, thank you for supporting the Workshop,
Matt
