203.06 Employment of Minors, Relatives and Dependents

  1. MINORS

When high school students are hired for short-term and part-time positions, appropriate official documents shall be checked in advance of employment for all new hires to verify that they are in fact at least age sixteen.

  2. RELATIVES
    1. Laboratory management reserves the right to limit the employment of relatives in the event that such employment interferes with effective and efficient operations.
    2. Relatives are defined as parents, children, spouses, domestic partners, brothers or sisters, in-laws, and step relatives in these relationships.
    3. Relatives are not permitted to work in a supervisory-subordinate relationship or within situations where a direct sphere of influence exists. If two employees in a supervisor-subordinate working relationship become relatives, the HR Director shall alert the appropriate Associate Director and appropriate reassignments will be made.
    4. Generally, employment of relatives in the same work area is not encouraged but may be permitted on a case by case basis

  3. DEPENDENTS
    1. Dependents are defined as relations, or other persons, living in the employee's household and/or for whom the employee provides one-half or more of the total required annual financial support.
    2. With pre-approval by the appropriate Associate Director, or Deputy Associate Director, and the Director of Human Resources, dependents of JSA employees are eligible to hold Student Intern positions and unpaid student positions at Jefferson Lab, provided the student is outside the employee's department, work area, and management chain of command
