Speaker: Alberto Accardi Title: From things to strings? Abstract: I propose a bottom-up approach to color confinement and gauge/string duality in real-life QCD, starting from the ordinary Yang-Mills theory. Specifically, I will show how one can organize the Yang-Mills Lagrangian as a perturbation of a N=2 Super Yang-Mills Lagrangian. The existence of this supersymmetric core inside the ordinary Yang-Mills theory suggests a dynamical realization of the dual superconductor mechanism for color confinement. It may also explain why the non perturbative physics of the deconfined Quark-Gluon Plasma phase of QCD observed at the RHIC accelerator closely resembles that of a supersymmetric theory as computed via gauge/string duality techniques.
