Speaker: Pavlos Vranas (Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory ) Title: The Quark, the Techniquark and the Supercomputer Abstract: QCD at extreme temperatures undergoes a phase change to a quark gluon plasma. And a candidate theory for physics beyond the standard model advocates a new nuclear physics of techniquarks at the TeV scale. Both involve strong interactions, can only be studied numerically on the lattice using massively parallel supercomuters, and are of central importance to the upcoming LHC experiments. I will discuss this research and the numerical simulations we are performing at LLNL in a hundredth of a cubic meter of silicon and wire (BlueGene/L).
