This presentation is divided in two parts. The first part deals with the study of the electromagnetic structure of A=2 and 3 nuclei in chiral effective field theory (chi-EFT). Predictions for static properties and form factors of the deuteron and trinucleons (^3He and ^3H), by using two- and three-nucleon potentials, and charge and current operators derived in chi-EFT, are presented. The second part consists in constructing a minimally nonlocal chi-EFT nucleon-nucleon (NN) potential up to next-to-next-to-next leading order (N3LO) in the chiral expansion, including nucleon and Delta-isobar degrees of freedom. Three versions of the this chiral potential up to N3LO, corresponding to three different cutoffs, have been developed with good fits to np and pp data up to E_{\rm LAB}\leq 300 MeV.
