I will present some recent results of modeling hadrons in a light-front Hamiltonian approach. The particular model is based on light-front holographic QCD at large distance and a one-gluon exchange at short distance. The model is solved in a basis function approach. Mass spectra and light-front wave functions (LFWFs) for charmonia, bottomonia and Bc mesons are obtained. The LFWFs are used to study the decay constants, elastic form factors, rms radius, distribution amplitudes and parton distributions, which reveals rich structural information of the system. I will also comment on the emerging paths towards ab initio light-front Hamiltonian calculations. References: [1] Y. Li, P. Maris, X. Zhao and J.P. Vary, Phys. Lett.
