More recently, it has been shown that various measures of lattice hadron structure could be interpreted in terms of a class of so-called "lattice cross sections" [Phys.Rev.Lett. 120 (2018) no.2, 022003], computable directly in lattice QCD, that are factorizable into parton distribution functions with calculable coefficients, in the same manner as the hadronic cross sections measured in an experiment. The lightest pseudoscalar meson, the pion is of inherent theoretical interest. We present the progress on the lattice QCD calculation of the valence quark distributions of pion using the lattice cross sections method with spatially separated current-current correlation matrix.
