JLab Occupational Medicine shall offer TD immunization boosters only to employees who experience an injury in the workplace.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that routine TD boosters be administered every ten years. Certain injuries (such as lacerations, abrasions, or puncture wounds) require administration of TD booster sooner if more than 5 years have elapsed since last booster.
Contract employees requiring TD boosters due to injury must be referred to their private medical doctor or the facility or physician providing treatment of the injury.
If there are any questions as to the administration of the vaccine the nurse shall defer the injection and discuss any issues with the JLab medical director.
All employees should be monitored by the nurse for 20 minutes following the tetanus immunization.
The JLab nurse shall have all employees requesting tetanus immunizations complete the tetanus immunization questionnaire.
