Heraeus Conamic - Seminar on Fused Silica

Frank Nürnberg and Wolfgang Schlichting of Heraeus Conamic will present an overview of fused silica material with a focus on radiation hardness in particle accelerators and Cherenkov applications. The seminar will take place on Monday, April 22, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. in CEBAF Center rm. F326-327 and via Zoom.

Many modern experiments in nuclear and particle physics must consider the radiation tolerance of various materials used in the detectors. The upcoming MOLLER experiment at Jefferson Lab will be using a large amount of fused silica as a key component in the main detectors. Frank Nürnberg and Wolfgang Schlichting of Heraeus Conamic will present a seminar on the work of Heraeus Conamic to address the issue of radiation hardness for fused silica. Some of the most highly irradiated portions of the MOLLER detectors will be using a specially formulated version of fused silica originally developed by Heraeus Conamic for an application at the Large Hadron Collider.
