The mission of the Jefferson Lab Records Management office is to manage, in collaboration with divisions and organizations, the Laboratory's diverse records while meeting the requirements as promulgated by the Code of Federal Regulations, DOE Orders and JLAB requirements. Records management assists in implementing document control and ensures effective access and retrieval of or needed administrative and technical information, thus, supporting the scientific mission of the laboratory.

Jefferson Lab's records management policy is to establish systematic control and maintenance of all records composed, produced, and found within the Laboratory. Using the retention and disposition schedules of the Department of Energy and the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), this policy will ensure that JLab has maximum legal/regulatory protection, adhering to and providing for the preservation of historic records. Under the direction of the Records Management Department each division of JLab is responsible for the implementation of the records management policy:
