    Applied Superconductivity Conference
    September 18-22, 2000

Jefferson Lab is one of the sponsors of the next Applied Superconductivity Conference, which will be held in Virginia Beach Sept 18-22, 2000. The abstract deadline is February 11, 2000. Abstracts must be submitted at the web site, http://www.ascinc.org

    P. Brindza, Q.S. Shu and Jay Benesch of JLab are on the program committee. Under the "Large Scale" category there are two subcategories of particular relevance to JLab:

L5: superconducting RF cavities and components
L6: SRF applications, e.g. FEL's, APT, recirculating linacs

Submitted papers are published in the IEEE Transactions of Applied Superconductivity, so you can check in the library to get a feel for the conference if you've never been to one. The last one, in Palm Desert, CA, had about 1650 attendees. It's divided into three categories of roughly equal size: Large Scale has been slowly shrinking, Materials is holding its own, and Electronics has been growing. It's a good opportunity to display the Lab to a different community. Fred Dylla will likely give a plenary talk on the FEL. Paul and I can arrange session schedules and special sessions. Please email me at benesch@jlab.org with requests and suggestions. The registration fee will be about $500, including the proceedings and one paper submission. Budget for it now! No travel funds to worry about, at least.
