XVth Particles and Nuclei International Conference-- PANIC 99The XVth Particles and Nuclei International Conference(PANIC99) will be held on June 10-16, 1999, at the campus of Uppsala University. This conference is a continuation of a series begun at CERN in 1963 and held regularly, most recently in 1996 in Williamsburg, Virginia, USA. It is hosted jointly by the Department of Radiation Sciences and the The Svedberg Laboratory,Uppsala University. The conference belongs to a series of international physics conferences connecting nuclear and elementary-particle physics. It is sponsored by the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP). The first conference was held in Geneva in 1963. The title of the first conference was High Energy Physics and Nuclear Structure. Later it was changed to Particles and Nuclei International Conference (PANIC). In 1973 Uppsala organized the 5th conference in this series. PANIC 99 will maintain the spirit of earlier conferences by being a meeting place for nuclear and elementary-particle physicists. Their disciplines play an increasingly important role in astrophysics and cosmology, topics that are given special attention in the conference programme. Since PANIC 99 is a turn-of-the-millennium conference, efforts will be made to project present achievements into the next millennium.
Uppsala is a city with many historic monuments. The university, founded in 1477, is the oldest in the Nordic countries. As an appropriate symbol for the conference a Swedish rune stone carved around the last millennium change is used.
