Photo of the Week, February 18, 2019

This week we recognize the birthday of American theoretical scientist and string theorist David Gross, February 19. Along with Frank Wilczek and David Politzer, he was awarded the 2004 Nobel Prize in Physics for their discovery of asymptotic freedom, a feature of quantum chromodynamics in which interactions between particles become weak at high energy. QCD is the theory of the strong interaction between quarks and gluons, the fundamental particles that make up composite hadrons such as the proton, neutron and pion.

This photo features the attendees of the 2012 QCD Evolution Workshop.
