Change to Site-Wide Alert Text Message Utility
Texts Will Now Come From 215 Area Code
The Information Technology Division’s Telecom group recently got a new texting service from Verizon. Using this service will allow Telecom to send text messages to mobile phones without needing to know the service provider of the recipient.
The new service will be deployed on the evening of Thursday, May 4, and tested on Friday morning when the monthly Tornado Siren Test notification is sent out.
While much of this change will be invisible to text message recipients, the messages will now come from phone number (215) 970-0778, and the message will be prefixed with "JLAB:". Previously, most people received the texts from "email@example.com" or "firstname.lastname@example.org".
Please make note of this change, so that you don’t block Jefferson Lab alert messages from this number: (215) 970-0778.
