ESH&Q Changes & Announcements

Posted on behalf of the Chief Operating Officer

Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to announce some significant changes to the Environmental, Safety, Health and Quality Division for the coming year.

Retirement Announcement
ESH&Q Director Mary Logue’s last day as a full-time employee of Jefferson Lab is today, Wednesday, Dec. 11. Mary is retiring after 11 years of service with Jefferson Lab. Long time lab employees recognize the significant positive impact Mary has made on advancing our ESH&Q programs and safety culture. This includes key roles in major projects like the 12 GeV upgrade and TEDF construction. Mary has assembled a world-class staff of safety, environment, and health professionals that continue to enable the mission of Jefferson Lab. Mary’s contributions have extended far beyond her role as ESH&Q director and include a leadership role in building an active diversity and inclusion program, serving as a mentor to many of us, serving as COO for an extended time, and being frequently called upon for her expertise and insight by other DOE laboratories. Please join me in wishing Mary health and happiness in retirement!

Acting ESH Director
Upon Mary’s announcement of her plans, we initiated the process of selecting her successor. Many candidates applied and the top four interviewed. The selection process is nearly complete and I expect to name a new ESH Director in the coming weeks. Until Mary’s successor is in place, Bob May has agreed to serve as acting ESH Director. Please continue to give Bob your full support as you have given Mary.

Performance Assurance Office
In an effort to broaden the focus, extend the effectiveness and enhance the visibility of our internal self-assessment program, we have re-designated the quality and continuous improvement function that was part of ESH&Q as the new Performance Assurance Office reporting directly to the COO. Steve Smith has agreed to serve as the Performance Assurance Manager. The Performance Assurance staff will initially include Mary Jo Bailey, Jacqueline Bacon, and Daniel Gautier. Details of the redefined role of the Performance Assurance Office will be described in a forthcoming revision to the Contractor Assurance Program Description.

Sincerely,
Mike Maier
