I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. George Neil as JLab's Associate Director for the FEL program. George's leadership and his scientific and engineering talents have been critical to the success of the Jefferson Lab FEL over many years, and since March of 2007, he has ably led the FEL Division as acting AD during a particularly challenging period. George has played an essential role in building and operating the Lab's world-class FEL and is recognized as a leader in FEL R&D with over 100 peer-reviewed published papers and eleven patents in FEL and related technologies. He is the recipient of multiple awards and was part of the JLab team recognized in 2005 with an R&D 100 Award for work on the JLab Free Electron Laser
In addition to his accomplishments at Jefferson Lab, George served for five years as the Editor of the Infrared Physics and Technology (Elsevier, Holland) research journal, and is the past Chair of the Joint 30th International Conference on Infrared and Millimeter Waves and of the 13th Annual Conference on Terahertz Electronics. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, a Fellow of the Directed Energy Professional Society and the 2000 co-winner of the International Free Electron Laser Prize.
Please join me in congratulating George as he assumes his role as the JLab Associate Director for the FEL.
