Jefferson Lab's 25th Anniversary celebration is just days away – Tuesday, Sept. 29. The event will take place under a large tent in the main CEBAF Center parking lot (east side of CEBAF Center), and Energy Secretary Steven Chu will be the keynote speaker. All staff and users attending the event are asked to be at the Tent by 11 a.m.
Due to the secretary's participation, the large crowd that we anticipate and the set up of the large tent, temporary restrictions will be placed on the CC parking lot beginning Thursday evening, Sept. 24. These parking restrictions will allow crews to set up and take down the event.
Alternative parking locations are being made available during this period. Please carefully read the following and see the attached map to become aware of restricted areas and alternate parking areas.
Sept. 24, Thur., 5:30 p.m.: ALL VEHICLES must be removed from the main CEBAF Center parking lot by 5:30 p.m. Commercial sweeping of the entire lot will begin around 6 p.m. Thursday. There are no exceptions. Vehicles in the lot after 5:30 will be towed.
Sept. 25, Fri. – Sept. 28, Mon.: The north half (Lot B on attached map) of the CC parking lot will be OPEN for parking Friday, Sept. 25 through 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28. On Monday evening Lot B will be blocked off as it will be used for VIP/Special Guest parking on Tuesday, Sept. 29 and through mid-morning on Wednesday, Sept. 30. CC Handicap Parking: Parking spaces just north of the CC loading dock driveway (Lot B) will be designated for handicap parking.
Sept. 25, Fri. – Sept. 30, Wed.: No parking or vehicle traffic will be permitted in the south half (Lot A on attached map) of the CC parking lot from Sept. 25 until after the event tent comes down, which should be around noon Wednesday, Sept. 30. This includes golf carts and bikes.
Alternate Parking: Please see the attached map for alternate parking areas – marked in yellow. These areas include:
-the lot stretching between CEBAF Center and the VARC
-the VARC parking lot (Except for the small lot directly west of the VARC that is reserved for the TEDF Review)
-the lots adjacent to the ARC
-behind the EEL, building 90
-behind and in front of the Test Lab, building 58
-and the lot adjacent to the Accelerator Site Entrance, Guard Post 2
Sept. 29 Event Attendance, Overflow Parking and Traffic Flow: Security will monitor parking on Sept. 29 and if the alternate lots (mentioned above) fill up, then overflow parking will be directed to park in single-file, parallel fashion on the EAST side of Lawrence Drive. If overflow parking is needed, a JLab staff member in a golf cart will be available from about 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. to shuttle individuals between Lawrence Drive and campus buildings. Don't walk through the new connector road just west of CEBAF Center or through the tree line; this is a Construction Zone.
CC Handicap Parking: Parking spaces just north of the CC loading dock driveway (Lot B) will be designated for handicap parking.
11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: The roads immediately to the south and east of CEBAF Center will be closed to all vehicle traffic, including golf carts, during the ceremony. The only exceptions will be for late-arriving VIPs, the Occupational Medicine Golf Cart, emergency vehicles at the Food Services golf cart.
During the event, golf carts may be parked on the basketball pad on the north side of CEBAF Center or behind the EEL. Please don't park golf carts behind CEBAF Center or in the CC Circle.
Lab Staff and Users attending the Ceremony and Luncheon are asked to arrive at the event Tent by 11 a.m. Walking is preferable. Park golf carts on the basketball pad north of CEBAF Center or behind the EEL. Park bikes only in bike racks. For individuals not wishing to walk from the Accelerator Site, a shuttle van will run between the MCC, building 85, and the event tent from 10:15 – 11 a.m. The event program will run from 11:05 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and include keynote speaker, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu and other invited speakers. A buffet lunch will be served under the tent, beginning immediately after the ceremony.
Alternate and overflow parking will continue through the morning of Sept. 30. Parking should return to normal by Oct. 1.
To accommodate the event Tent, the light pole in the center of Lot A will be taken down at some point on Sept. 23 or 24. The pole will be put back up after Tent removal is complete.
Information about the event program will become available in the coming days.
