Instructions, Scheduling for Carpet Replacement in TED & Test Lab – to Begin Oct. 27

Please read the following message: It includes instructions and the schedule for TED and Test Lab carpet replacement work scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct 27, 2014.

Existing carpet on the 1st and 2nd floors of the TED, Bldg. 55 and the Test Lab, office wing, Bldg. 58, is being replaced because the carpet does not meet specifications for flatness.

Work will begin on Monday evening, Oct. 27, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and during the day on week-ends, starting with the TED building until completed and then continuing in the Test Lab. The anticipated duration of work is about three weeks. Facilities Management will walk through the buildings with the contractor on Monday morning to confirm the sequence of work.

The contractor will work on assigned areas each night. Each assigned work area will be completed and available for use on the following morning. The first area of work (Area 1 on the linked pdf) on the 2nd floor of the TED building will be Conference rooms 2559, 2561A and 2561B; the Collaborative Space; the adjacent corridor (2500) and one section of workstations off the same corridor. The installers will continue from the west side of the building as indicated (Area 2).

TED and Test Lab occupants will be updated on the sequencing each day as the work progresses.

The pdf of the floor plans of the buildings showing areas to be completed each night may be viewed from this link.

Specific Information and Space Preparation Requirements:

  1. Workstations will be lifted only one-half inch (1/2”) above the floor.
    2. Power and power cables will not be affected.
    3. Power is not required to be turned off. Connections will not be affected.
    4. Monitors, CPU's and other items should be placed on the desks.
    5. Books or documents may remain on bookshelves or in file cabinets.
    6. Small breakables or fragile items that are mounted high may be moved if you are concerned about breakage; however, the installers will move items that they believe could fall off and break. Picture frames can be laid flat on the desk.
    7. Trash cans and chairs in the immediate work area will be moved and replaced in their original locations by the installers.
    8. Conference room furniture will be moved and replaced by the installers.
    9. Move all papers from the floor because the installers may not replace them in the correct area if they move them.
    10. Facilities will be providing storage bins, in case you need them.

We realize this is disruptive and apologize for the inconvenience. We ask for your patience and cooperation as we complete this work. The Facilities Management points of contact for this work are Christine Snetter, ext. 7318 and Maynard Brown, ext. 6162.
