Members of the JAG Dog Training Club, in coordination with Dan Young, Physics Division, are currently collecting food items to support the Peninsula Foodbank.
Young and his Samoa dogs (aka Santa's Sleigh Dogs, Niko and Tally, from last year's JAG Children's Holiday Party), take a sleigh full of donated food to the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula before Thanksgiving each year.
Marked food collection boxes have been placed in the CEBAF Center, VARC and ARC lobbies. Voluntary donations of food items will be collected through Friday, Nov. 18. The food will be loaded into Niko's sleigh and delivered to the foodbank at the 15th Annual Mayflower Marathon on Nov. 20.
Most needed items include: any variety of cereal, ready-to-eat meats, nutritious snacks like dried fruit or nuts, canned vegetables and fruits, pasta and sauces, hearty soups with meat, ravioli, peanut butter and jelly. Bring only items packaged in cans, plastic or cardboard; items packaged in glass cannot be accepted.
