Jefferson Lab Fitness Center Open House Set for Oct. 6, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Will Open for Use on Oct. 7
Many have seen the "Fitness" sign on the door of Room 2558 in the Technology and Engineering Development Building, Bldg. 55. The room has had limited use up to this point, but not anymore. With the closing out of the Technology and Engineering Development Facility project this month, the laboratory was able to procure equipment for the room.
Equipment for cardio and strength training has been delivered and assembled in the room. Cardio equipment includes a treadmill, elliptical, bike and rowing machine. Strength equipment includes in part a functional trainer, shoulder press, leg extension/leg curl and dumbbells. Still being installed is a TV/DVD player to support aerobics, Tai Chi and other activities as well as a few other items.
The equipment purchased was based on suggestions from the Jefferson Lab Activities Group (JAG), as well as some of the local fitness enthusiasts.
To familiarize staff and users with the room and its amenities, JAG is sponsoring an open house on Oct. 6, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Mary Jo Bailey, JAG chair, will be there to greet those who stop by. Dave Hamlette, ESH&Q Division, and others will be there to answer questions about the equipment. Jason Willoughby, FM&L Division, will demonstrate use of the TV and associated electronics.
Starting Oct. 7, hours of operation will be 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. The facility is for use by all Jefferson Lab staff and visiting scientists at least 18 years old. Use of the facility is at an individual’s own risk. Everyone should consult their physician before beginning any exercise program.
Stop by to find out how you might use this new amenity.
