JLab Earns Hampton Roads Sanitation District 2016 Gold Award for Environmental Stewardship
Jefferson Lab was recognized in April for its environmental stewardship. The lab received a 2016 Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) Gold Award for its outstanding environmental compliance record for the year.
The Gold Award is presented to businesses that have perfect industrial wastewater permit compliance for one year.
HRSD held its annual awards luncheon on April 18. During the event, HRSD recognized businesses and industry for exemplary permit compliance and outstanding Pollution Prevention measures. A statement published by HRSD, with the names of award recipients, reads, in part:
"Congratulations …for exemplary permit compliance and outstanding pollution prevention measures. …[B]usinesses pretreat their industrial wastewater before discharging it to HRSD's system. Their efforts help protect our waterways and other natural resources."
"Honoring businesses for their outstanding efforts provides deserved recognition and an incentive to maintain compliance and prevent pollution beyond environmental regulations."
JLab representatives attending the awards event included Patty Hunt with the Thomas Jefferson Site Office, Steve Castagnola and Derrick Dail with the Superconducting Radiofrequency (SRF) Institute, and Scott Conley with the Environmental, Safety, Health and Quality (ESH&Q) Division.
