JLab United Way Appeal & Oct. 9 Kick-Off Social
Please join me in supporting our communities by donating to the annual United Way of the Virginia Peninsula campaign. Your contribution to the United Way, no matter the sum, provides critical services and supplies to those in need in our community. After-school programs, affordable daycare, transportation for the elderly, hospice care, job training for the less fortunate and even food and shelter are just some of the benefits that result from your donations.
Our local United Way has undergone many changes over the past year aimed at increasing our community impact. These changes include a merger of the former Lower Peninsula and Williamsburg United Way to form a larger, more capable organization to serve the entire Peninsula, new leadership and an expanded board of directors, and a new resource management model that now makes it possible for 100% of our individual contributions to go to directly to local needs with the organizational overhead now entirely supported by area corporations.
JLab's pledge campaign kicks off on Monday, Oct. 9, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. This year senior management will be serving up Ice Cream and assorted toppings donated by Elite Management Group, our Cafe contractor, for $1 per scoop (limit 3 scoops per person, includes assorted toppings) to raise money for the United Way. Additional food and beverage items will be available for regular purchase in Quark Cafe.
We will also sell $1 raffle tickets, at a table in the CEBAF Center Atrium, during the social and during lunch time throughout the month of October, until and at the JAG Fall Festival on Nov. 1. The proceeds from all raffle tickets go directly to the United Way and enters you into drawing for one of three items donated by JSA: an Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular), Sony Playstation Virtual Reality Headset, or a $250 Best Buy Gift Card! The winning raffle tickets will be announced at the JAG Fall Festival on Nov. 1.
Employees are encouraged to pledge additional contributions to the United Way, either one time or through payroll deductions. A link to the pledge form is included at the end of this message for your convenience. Additional physical forms will be available at the front desks of the SSC, TED, MCC, and CEBAF Center. All forms should be returned to Krystina Patrick, Mail Stop 12B, CEBAF Center Room B214 by Monday, Nov. 6.
Countless members of our community, along with many of our friends and family, have likely been assisted by United Way over the years. Please join me in contributing to this worthy cause and show our compassion for those you need a helping hand.
