Lab Observes Engineers Week With Feb. 24 Visit by Young Women Interested in Engineering

On Tuesday, Feb. 24, Jefferson Lab will mark National Engineers Week – now dubbed DiscoverE – by hosting a small group of young women as part of “Introduce a Girl to Engineering” Day.

The event, now in its fifth year at Jefferson Lab, is being planned by the Engineering Division and Human Resources in conjunction with Newport News Public Schools, Hampton City Schools, and York County Schools.

The lab will host eight high school students for the day. They will spend time shadowing their mentors and see what a typical day is like for a mechanical or civil engineer. They also will get to tour the lab and socialize with their mentors at lunch.

The young women will shadow Jefferson Lab engineers: Renuka Rajput-Ghoshal, Shirley Yang, Katherine Wilson, and Virginia Hagen-Gates from the Engineering Division and Celia Whitlatch, Facilities Management and Logistics.
