Needed plumbing maintenance for cafeteria work planned for the holiday break is requiring limited Quark Cafe service on Friday Dec. 21.
On Friday morning, Dec. 21, the cafe will be open from 7-10 a.m. with a limited breakfast menu. Grab-and-go items will be available for purchase, including Dunkin Donuts. The usual beverages, including espresso, will also be available. The hot line will be closed.
The cafe will not be open for lunch.
Construction will start after the cafeteria closes on Thursday, Dec. 20, to replace a grease interceptor and associated plumbing/piping. The work will require removal and replacement of the tile floor in the kitchen as well as installation of the grease interceptor outside. On Thursday afternoon, food-service equipment will be moved into storage and all large and permanent equipment will be wrapped with plastic. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the shutdown, thus allowing full food service to begin when the lab re-opens on Jan. 2.
The contractor has already begun outdoor excavation work on the back (east) side of CEBAF Center to prepare to install the new kitchen grease interceptor for the cafeteria. This work continues and may limit access to the old loading dock on the back side of CEBAF Center. However, the work shouldn't stop use of the back door to access the golf carts, and it shouldn't prevent using the F Wing loading dock.
Please note, the area where the work is taking place is a construction zone. Stay out of the construction/excavation zone until all work is completed. Only individuals with training to enter the area and wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment may enter.
Work to tie-in the indoor and outdoor portions of the system is scheduled to take place in late December during the shutdown. Paving operations will be completed in late December or early January 2013.
