New Energy Conservation Measures Being Implemented Before Holiday Shutdown

The Jefferson Lab Energy Conservation Policy is designed to provide safe, comfortable conditions and energy efficient operation of heating, cooling and lighting equipment throughout the site. Personal comfort and convenience appliance use restrictions are also stated in the Lab policy.

Currently, air handling unit ventilation fans serving office areas are scheduled to automatically stop at 6:00 p.m. each weekday evening, and maintain reduced unoccupied temperature settings.  To reduce energy consumption and cost we are updating all automated ventilation fan schedules to stop each weekday at the end of normal business hours (5:00 p.m.).  Due to building mass, comfortable space temperatures (68°-70°F heating mode) are typically maintained for a reasonable period following ventilation fan shut down.

Prior to the holiday shutdown period, please remove all personal (not Lab owned) appliances including portable heaters, compact refrigerators, coffee makers, microwave ovens, etc. from the site.  These devices are prohibited at the lab not only because they contribute to increased energy consumption and impact the effectiveness of automated building temperature controls, but can also represent an unsafe fire-hazard concern. During the holiday shutdown period, Lab security will conduct a site-wide survey to assure personal appliances have been removed.
