Recording Holiday Time for Memorial Day

Recording Holiday Time for Memorial Day

Employees should record eight hours or part-time pro-rate of holiday time on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2019; with the exception of exempt employees who have received authorization to float the holiday. Exempt employees must work eight hours on Monday to float the holiday; please contact Payroll at timesheet@jlab.org if you plan to float.

Employees on an alternate or part-time work schedule, are required to record eight hours or part-time pro-rate of holiday time for Monday, regardless of the number of hours scheduled.

  • Employees scheduled for more than eight hours on Monday, need to work with their supervisor to determine if they are going to take leave or flex hours to account for the differential.
  • Employees scheduled for fewer than eight hours on Monday, need to work with their supervisor to determine when they may take their shortened day or alternate day off.
  • Exempt employees may flex across the pay period and non-exempt employees may only flex within the same week (Monday through Sunday).

Pages 49-51 of the Timekeeping Manual provide examples of flexing time when an employee is not on a standard 5 x 8 schedule.
