Run-A-Round Event Information

Run-A-Round Overview
The 34th Jefferson Lab Run-a-Round will be held on May 7th, 2019. The opening ceremony will start in front of CEBAF Center at 3:00 p.m., with the annual T-Shirt contest winner announcement before the race. The run/walk will start promptly at 3:15 p.m., and will wind through 1 mile of the scenic Jefferson Lab campus. For the 3rd consecutive year, Jefferson Lab will be competing against other DOE laboratories in the virtual mile race. Last year’s results can be found on the JAG website. T-Shirt distribution, awards presentation, food, and beverages will immediately follow the race at the SURA Residence Facility. 

Call for Run-a-Round Volunteers
Jefferson Lab Activities Group is on the hunt for Run-A-Round volunteers! The lab is searching for photographers, beer and food tent operators, field set-up volunteers and more! Lab employees can register to run, sign up to volunteer and learn more about the Run-a-Round here

Run-a-Round Charging Guidance
Volunteering? Participating? Attending? No matter what your involvement, the Run-a-Round is considered a work time event and should be charged using the “project” code RUNRND

  • Staff may charge up to 3 hours for participating, attending or volunteering between the hours of 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. on event day.
  • Staff may charge for volunteer hours for pre and post event activities.

Staff must communicate with their supervisor if participation is outside of their regularly scheduled hours. For questions regarding timesheet charges, contact the payroll department at

Road Closures and Parking

Between 2:30 and 4 p.m., there will be roads blocked off including Hofstadter Road, Lawrence Drive, Rutherford Road, Pauli Drive and Kelvin Drive to accommodate runner safety.

Parking lots near Support Service Center, Applied Research Center, and the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility Center will be affected at this time. Employees who need to leave the campus during these hours may park in the Experimental Equipment Lab or the Building 52/Environment, Safety, Health and Quality buildings. 

Staff members that need to leave early, park in the one of these lots and depart the lab via Rattley Road to Hogan Drive.
