The school shooting at VA Tech this week has touched our local and national community. We have several Lab employees whose children attend college at VA Tech. While HR is not aware of any fatalities or injuries within our JLab community, please be supportive and respectful of the many staff and users that have been impacted by this horrific event, as well as families with relatives that attend or work at VA Tech.
It is difficult for anyone to understand how someone could commit such a horrendous act of violence. At this time, the emotional reactions people have vary, but it is certain, that a heightened sense of awareness to personal safety and security are at the forefront of many people's thoughts. In an effort to support all employees and their families in dealing with this senseless act, we have posted a link on the Insight page (Spotlight News) from Sentara Employee Assistance Program (EAP). This document provides some guidance on how we can help care for ourselves and others. As a reminder, the EAP is a confidential resource that is available to all employees and their families. If you or a member of your family would like to talk with someone about the recent events at VA Tech or other types of challenges we all face in our home and work life, you can contact a professional for a confidential discussion at 1-800-899-8174 or 757-363-6777.
