Test of Public Address System in CEBAF Center at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 7; Live Calls Will be Put on Hold

If you are in a CEBAF Center conference room, office or other space at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, don’t be alarmed to hear a voice coming out of the speaker on the Cisco IP phones (phone with screens on the front), or to have a live phone call automatically put on hold.

The Cisco IP phones can be used to broadcast live announcements. This Public Address (PA) capability has been activated at Jefferson Lab for more than a year, and Saturday’s announcement is a limited test of the system.

The test should last no longer than one minute. If you hear this message in a conference room or in your office or other work space, please call ext. 5102 or email magaldi@jlab.org to report a successful test and to provide any feedback.

When the PA system is activated a tone will sound, followed immediately by the announcement. All “in progress” phone calls underway in CEBAF Center will be automatically put on hold. As soon as the test is completed, you may access and resume the call.

This capability is a very important real-time communication tool that is intended for use only for extremely important, time-sensitive emergency and emergency drill announcements. A lab-wide test of this system is planned for 9:45 a.m. on March 17 – the time of Virginia’s annual tornado drill.
