Volunteers Needed to Help Staff JLab Table at NASA Langley’s Centennial Open House on Oct. 21

On Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, the NASA Langley Research Center gates will open to the public for its Centennial Celebration Open House.

Jefferson Lab will have an informational table and activity space at the event. While a member of JLab’s Science Education team will be staffing the table throughout the day, volunteers are also needed to assist.

Science Education is seeking one volunteer for each of these two-hour slots:

  • 8:30 - 10:30 a.m.
  • 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
  • 12:30 - 2:30 p.m.
  • 2:30 - 4:30 p.m.

The JLab table will be in the Integrated Engineering Services Building (Bldg. 2102) at 1 NASA Drive, Hampton, VA 23666.

Volunteers should plan to arrive at the building a few minutes before their shift is to begin. Volunteers should be willing to answer questions about the lab or discuss aspects of their job, help hand out informational materials, and assist visitors with a simple electric magnet activity.

For additional information, or to sign up to help, contact Science Education Supervisor, Lisa Surles-Law, at surles@jlab.org or call ext. 5002. The sign-up deadline is Wednesday, Oct. 18.

“Participating in these events is great fun,” says Surles-Law. “People of all ages are interested in learning about the lab and what we do here.”

Volunteers will receive a parking pass. Surles-Law suggests that volunteers wear comfortable shoes and bring a bag lunch if planning to be there through midday.
