    NEWPORT NEWS, VA, Oct. 3, 2012 - The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility will host two Fall Science Series Lectures this season. The first is set for Tuesday, Oct. 9 and will feature a Jefferson Lab staff member discussing how frequently physics is used in ordinary life.

  • NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility will test its tornado warning siren at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 3. Depending on weather conditions at the time of the test, the siren could be heard by anyone outdoors within a 1.5-mile radius of the lab.
    The test will be carried out over a period that could last from 30 seconds to three minutes. The test will be of the wavering tone (also called high-low-high or 10-4-10).

  • Boron-Nitride Nanotubes Show Potential in Cancer Treatment


    NEWPORT NEWS, VA, April 26 - A new study has shown that adding boron-nitride nanotubes to the surface of cancer cells can double the effectiveness of Irreversible Electroporation, a minimally invasive treatment for soft tissue tumors in the liver, lung, prostate, head and neck, kidney and pancreas. Although this research is in the very early stages, it could one day lead to better therapies for cancer.

  • NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The U.S. Department of Energy's Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility will hold an Open House on Saturday, May 19 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
    Several of the lab's facilities will be open to the public, and visitors will be able to see and hear about the research underway at the lab.
