In March 2021, BNL and JLab together issued a Call for Collaboration Proposals for Detectors at the EIC (https://www.bnl.gov/eic/cfc.php) with proposals due by Wednesday, December 1, 2021. The EIC user community has been very active to answer the call and three proto-collaborations have formed and are planning to submit proposals.

BNL and JLab have appointed the EIC Detector Proposal Advisory Panel, a scientific-technical committee of renowned and independent subject matter experts, that will advise BNL and JLab on how to realize an optimal set of experimental equipment at the EIC capable of addressing the science case of the EIC White Paper and NAS Report. The first meeting of the EIC Detector Proposal Advisory Panel will be on December 13–15. The meeting is open to the public. To be eligible to attend, all participants must register online by December 12, 2021. For questions or assistance with registering, please contact the meeting coordinator, Christine Immel, via cimmel@bnl.gov.

The process includes a second, follow up public meeting on January 19-21, 2022, where the proto-collaborations will address the questions from the panel. The process is expected to be completed around March 1, 2022, and a report will be made publicly available.
