Day Shift, Thursday, August 22, 2002 Test Run Preparations ===================== 09:00 Lawrence and Ito in the counting room. Dave has installed extra code in our data reader so that the headless tagger TDC banks will be handled correctly. Eric has replaced the damaged target foil. The target is now being installed in the vacuum box. 10:00 PrimEx vacuum box now under vacuum. 10:30 Mark gets the EPICS alarm handlers to appear again. Eugene is working on the newly discovered alarms. 10:45 Hovanes Egiyan enters the Hall to turn on the NMR. 11:00 Work plan for the rest of the day: o Check magnets: Eugene o Check beamline motors: Eugene and Mark; done, see below o Check the NMR: Hovanes; done, see below o Check beamline vacuum valves: Eugene; done, see below o Get cables for 2nd veto counter strung: Eric o Time in the veto counter: Eric o E-counter repair: E143 and E149 draw too much current: Eugene; done, see below o Get trigger CAMAC-based MLU and threshold control to work: Eric o Write an end script for writing EPICS scalers to the database. Need to make a list of scaler channels first: Dave o Incorporate into the prestart script writing of all motor positions from EPICS into the database: Dave o Implement the scheme for writing EPICS variables into the datastream: Abdellah o Identify signals to be scaled for the data stream and plug them into the CODA scalers. Test that they read-out properly: Dave o Practice plateauing pair spectrometer counters: Liping o Bring paper log book to the Counting Room: Dave 14:30 D. Lawrence: Made several modifications/changes to trigger/readout electronics in hall: o Put LMS signal into bit 8 of Trigger supervisor. Timed it in at ~12.5 ns after HYCAL-0 trigger. o Turned up clock in trigger bit 7 to 10 kHz o Set ADC gate width to 300 ns o Setup TAC and Veto (4 channels for veto) thresholds and widths. All thresholds set to 50mV. All widths set to ~40ns. o Replaced LRS1881M module in slot 18 which may have had a bad channel o Put the following signals into primexroc1 TDC: TDC channel Signal ----------- --------- 0 ADC Gate (should be self timing) 1 TAC 2 Short Veto Top 3 Short Veto Bottom 4 Long Veto Top 5 Long Veto Bottom 6 TGGH1 7 TGGH2 8 TGGH3 9 TGGV1 10 TGGV2 11 TGGV3 12 TGWH1 13 TGWH2 14 TGWV1 15 TGWV2 14:50 Dan Dale is updating the PrimEx phone list. It is posted on the door of the Counting Room. Please send him any corrections. 15:20 Krister, Eugene and MCC have successfully ramped both the tagger magnet and the pair spectometer dipole magnet. Both are under remote control now (MCC controls the tagger, we control the pair spectrometer). Krister taught Eugene how to do local control of both supplies. Dan D. also knows how to do this for the pair spect. Note that Krister fixed the warning beacon light for the tagger; it's working now. 15:30 Hovanes gets the NMR functioning. He locks in on a 1.0 kA field using the gui. The scope above the TV monitors is now set to display the resonance signal. 16:00 The clock trigger works. More importantly, Dave and Sergei have done a rate test with the DAQ. It goes at 10 k events per second off of the clock trigger. Note that the clock rate can be reduced by prescaling the trigger with the Trigger Supervisor. 16:30 Mike Rafael and Eugene fixed E-counters 143 and 149. E143 was just reseated. For E149 base was replaced. --> Need to remove the shutter from the vacuum window before running. 17:00 Tom Carstens checked our beamline vacuum valves. They are working, open and in remote mode (MCC therefore has control of them). Eugene exercises the tagger radiator motors. They are working. 17:30 Krister and Hovanes reconnect the 2H00 harp motor. Eugene confirms that we now have control of our converters and can do photon harp scans. --> Need to re-establish the camera looking at the prototype. 18:40 Dave starts a long cosmic run for overnight. 19:00 The target motor's vertical motion has seized again. Remote control is not possible presently.
