Software Meeting Minutes - March 25, 2003

Attending: A. Teymurazyan (phone), A. Ahmidouch(phone), E. Clinton, Itaru Nakagawa, E. Pasyuk, R. Demirchyan, J. Underwood, M. Ito, D. Lawrence

Review of Software Workshop agenda: Two new talks were added since the last e-mail announcement. One on HV slow controls (E. Clinton) and the other on Veto Counter Analysis (R. Miskimen). Two more Talks were suggested, One on Motor Controls for HYCAL, target, and TAC (M. Ito) and the other on Digitization of Monte Carlo Data (A. Ahmidouch).

We discussed whether Yar should present Software status of the LMS and his recent work on the PrimEx Web page. There was consensus that since he would only be repeating presentations from the collaboration meeting the day before, it would not be an efficient use of time.

Dave reviewed recent work on merging Monte Carlo code with the standard PrimEx analysis code. This is an effort to produce MC data in a format that can be read and analyzed using the standard PrimEx analysis tools. Up to now, this has been done using separate, tools specific to the Monte Carlo. As part of this effort 5 new banks have been defined. They are: PARTICLE MCHEAD MCPART MCGEN MCDEPOSITED As of right now, only the MCPART and MCGEN banks are filled. The mechanism is now functioning, however, and these banks can be viewed using bankdump. Eugene suggested adding the random number generators' seed to the MCGEN bank for each event. Eugene also suggested extending the intended function of the MCHEAD bank to include RCS version strings from all files compiled into the executable being run. This could be done for all analysis programs as well as psim.

The room grew deafly silent when an invitation for volunteers to do this was extended. Mark asked if we should create a new release now or wait until after Dave commits the new, significant changes. Dave suggested now and Mark completed building release-2-1 from his laptop moments later.

Dave remarked that we don't currently build or test on SunOS. It is neccessary to have this since our online monitor programs will need to run on this platform.

Another eerie silence ensued when volunteers were again asked for.

There was some discussion on the format of the web pages. Several suggestions were made to Yar. He will incorporate those according to his best judgement.
