Preliminary Mapping of Magnet

Dr. Ahmidouch and two A&T students Jason Gilchrist and Tim Southern conducted a preliminary
magnetic field measurement of the dipole magnet in the test lab.
The following graphs represent:
- The excitation curve measured at the center of the dipole
- Due to concerns of overheating because of the limited cooling system
capacity, we did not attempt any
measurement above 2500 Amps. At this current, the magnet delivered a field
strength of 1.65 Tesla.
- A map of the field at the central line, at 2000 Amps, i.e. 1.345 T
- A map of the field 12.03cm left of center line, at 2000 Amps, i.e. 1.345 T
- A map 16.13cm right of center line, at 2000 Amps, i.e. 1.345 T
