Radiological Work Permit #2021-S011
2021-S011
Linac and Arc Service Building Access
1/1/2021
12/31/2021
This Standing RWP describes the radiological work controls associated with entering the North and South Linac and Arc service buildings during Beam Permit
Access to North and South Linac, and Arc service buildings to perform necessary testing, maintenance, troubleshooting or repairs during beam permit. During "Beam Permit", the following conditions will apply: - The Linac service building access doors will be posted as Radiologically Controlled Areas. Klystron gallery areas associated with the C100 cryomodules in the North and South Linac, as well as interlocked klystron racks, will be posted as Radiation Areas. - The Arc service building access doors, E1 - E5 and W3 - W5, will be posted as Radiation Areas. - Arc service building E1 is posted due to the helium penetration on the outside of building. - Access to the above posted radiation areas during beam operations requires notification of the Crew Chief or a member of the RCD, and use of SRPDs. - Access to spaces above open penetrations,E2-E5 and W3-W5 (which are posed High radiation areas) is prevented by a combination of physical barriers, RadCon locks and tamper-resistant fasteners on affected hardware (interlocked equipment also serves to prevent access while beam is running). This includes the locked fenced are behind E1. For work in these areas, BEAM MUST BE TURNED OFF, and RCD must authorize removal of access barriers. - Work in the Injector, W1, W2 and BSY service buildings does not require specific radiological work controls and is not governed by this RWP. These buildings will normally be posted as Radiologically Controlled Areas.

Removed security screws from chassis in rack E401B12 for Eric Diggs. Screwed screws in open slots below chassis for storage.
07/30/2021
All security screws placed back in racks or verified to already have been in place on all relevant arc service building racks prior to beam authorization. All RCG-1 locks verified on all relevant racks and all hasps verified closed in the arc service buildings.

- All entries into affected Arc service buildings during beam operations will require Crew Chief or RCD authorization. - Anyone entering the posted radiation areas must be briefed and signed in on this RWP and have an SRPD, in addition to their personal dosimeter. - If the state of the machine is changed to Controlled or Restricted Access, the Crew Chief on duty, under RCD authorization, can de-post the radiation areas for entry without SRPDs. - If machine is taken out of beam permit or inline dump is inserted for maintenance in one of the Arc service building HRAs, authorization must be obtained by RadCon, and an elog must be entered to document RCG-1 lock /security screw removal, and upon completion, verification that securing items have been replaced.

- As stated above, access to posted HRAs in Arc service building rack spaces, requires securing beam (changing state from "beam permit" or inserting inline dump), notifying RCD, and making elog entries.

  • By agreement between RCM and Acc Ops Manager: When the North Linac is in Straight Ahead mode, with inline dump secured in place, or with the inline dump inserted with its air supply isolated and administratively locked out, the Service Buildings do not require posting or may be de-posted.
