The highly anticipated interactive science show, Physics Fest, will be held twice this summer on July 10 and August 7, at Jefferson Lab.
NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Physics Fest is back this summer with science educator Steve Gagnon at the helm! In a breathtaking 75-minute-long demonstration, Gagnon makes experimenting with science “stuff” relatable and fun. Join him as he explores a multitude of scientific investigations and their principles, complete with volunteers hand-picked from the audience.
“When they’re having fun, I’m having fun,” Gagnon says of the students’ reactions. Gagnon, who has been leading the demonstration for nearly 20 years, has the show down to a science. He says he’s experimented with different formulas over time but maintains, “Each component of the show is there for a reason. We’re sticking with the classics this summer.”
Gagnon also reviews some of the technologies and experiments at the top of the demonstration, including explanations highlighting the various states of matter and how Jefferson Lab studies physics every day.
Interested instructors can take advantage of the free downloadable activity pack designed to prepare and review subjects learned during Physics Fest. The 45-page PDF moves beyond Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) learning and also covers English curriculum, such as word puzzles, fill-in-the-blank essays and more.
Whether it’s a 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit plasma spectrum or a -321 degrees Fahrenheit nitrogen deep freeze, one only needs to register online to reserve a seat. This educational show is free and open to the public, but young learners shouldn’t delay! Physics Fest shows often “sell out.”
