ACCELERATOR DIVISION OFFERS WRITING PROFESSIONAL PAPERS WORKSHOP
Scientists and engineers in all stages of their careers are invited to register for a workshop designed to address writing techniques for peer-reviewed journals and conference papers. Participants will learn the most effective processes for overcoming writer’s block, for organizing research results into a publication-compliant draft, and for editing papers to correct faults in cohesion, style and standards. THE COULOMB FLUX TUBE REVISITED
Various studies with lattice Yang-Mills theories have shown that the ground state of the static quark-antiquark pair is characterized by a flux tube formation. According to theory, in a bare quark-antiquark state, one should not expect the same behavior of the energy density distribution, which should, in contrast, decay much slower than in the ground state. A new study has performed a lattice simulation of the electric field distribution in the Coulomb gauge to investigate the nature of the bare state and its relation to the ground state, as well as to verify the previous lattice results that contradicted theoretical predictions. 

SCHEDULED ACCELERATOR DOWN PRE-EVENT MEETING
The pre-Scheduled Accelerator Down meeting has been scheduled for Sept. 5, 2019, 9-10:30 a.m. in the CEBAF Center auditorium. CYBERSECURITY UPDATE TO NOTIFY COMPUTER USERS OF VULNERABILITIES
Jefferson Lab's Cybersecurity team has made enhancements to its vulnerability scanning program. Their assessment tools are now integrated with ServiceNow. High or critical severity vulnerabilities that remain unpatched on computer systems will automatically have an associated incident submitted. Starting Monday, Sept. 2, computer users with systems that have outstanding vulnerabilities will receive weekly notifications via email, which will continue as long as they exist. Additionally, these vulnerabilities can be viewed anytime in ServiceNow by navigating to My Incidents. The Cybersecurity team anticipates that this will not only increase information security awareness in the Jefferson Lab community, but will further enable our computer users to take an active role in keeping the lab's computer systems secure. Addressing these vulnerabilities will range from being as simple as rebooting your system to working with someone in IT to mitigate them. RUTHERFORD ROAD CLOSURE SET FOR SEPT. 4-6
A section of Rutherford Road will be closed Sept. 4-6 for repair work, including patching, pothole filling, application of a new surface sealant and re-striping. The closure will extend from the intersection of Rutherford Road and Hofstadter Road through the south end of Building 13. During the closure, the Support Service Center back parking lot may only be accessed via the east side of the SSC parking lot. Weather permitting, the road will reopen Sept. 7. SECURE BULK SHREDDING FOR JEFFERSON LAB SENSITIVE WORK DOCUMENTS
To aid in the proper disposal of business sensitive or other restricted-use JSA or Jefferson Lab documents, secure shredding collection boxes are located in CEBAF Center and the Support Service Center. A contracted service, Shred-it, visits the lab monthly to gather materials in the collection boxes for shredding. The next scheduled visit is Sept. 19. LOCAL RESTAURANT OFFERS LIMITED LUNCH BUFFET IN CEBAF CENTER SEPT. 3-6
For one week only, Smoke BBQ Restaurant & Bar will offer a pop-up, one-plate lunch buffet in the CEBAF Center atrium on Tuesday-Friday, Sept. 3-6, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The buffet will feature a different theme each day, with themes including sliders, stir fry and pasta. The buffet will be $11 plus tax, with drinks and dessert offered separately. During this week, the Quark Café will be closed; it will reopen on Sept. 9 with Momo's.
