Kids. Kids, Kids!!

The Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility in partnership with Huntington Middle School is hosting a special Family Night for its BEAMS students and their families on Tuesday, March 19, 1996 at 6:00 p.m. at Huntington Middle School in Newport News. BEAMS students will lead their parents through hands-on scientific activities such as the Slow Bicycle Race and Oobleck, an experiment on observing the properties of matter.

BEAMS - Becoming Enthusiastic About Math and Science - is a partnership designed to involve 5th and 6th grade students in the hands-on science being done at CEBAF. All 300 Huntington 6th spent 5 days at CEBAF this year, and worked directly with scientists, engineers, and technicians from CEBAF. The family night provides an opportunity for parents to learn firsthand what their children did during their BEAMS week at CEBAF.

Teachers and CEBAF staff hope the BEAMS Family Night will get parents actively involved in their children's education. Janet Tyler, BEAMS Program Coordinator, hopes that Family Night "will show parents that their children are really interested in science, and that science and math are accessible and useful to everyone."

The media is invited to attend this event to see children and their parents having fun learning science and math which are important for many well-paying careers.
