The Department of Energy's Jefferson Lab, in conjunction with Hampton University, is proud to present the World Year of Physics event "Einstein and his Violin" on Wednesday, May 4.
The event begins with Dr. Brian Foster from Oxford University presenting a short introduction on Albert Einstein's love of music and his passion for the violin. Foster's monologue will be followed by a live performance of a selection of Einstein's favorite music — composed by Mozart, Brahms, Bloch and Prokofiev — and performed by internationally known violinist Jack Liebeck and pianist Inon Barnatan.
"This promises to be a truly unique experience," says Linda Ware, Jefferson Lab's public affairs manager, "offering the audience a glimpse into the creative and genius mind of Einstein. It is scheduled to be performed in only a half-dozen locations around the United States."
The event is set for 7:30 p.m. May 4 at Christopher Newport University's Ferguson Center for the Arts in Newport News, Va. Tickets are $10 per person and may be purchased by calling the CNU Ticket Office at 757-594-8752 or visiting the Ticket Office. Tickets may also be bought at the Jefferson Lab CEBAF Center reception desk weekdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jefferson Lab is located at 12000 Jefferson Ave., Newport News. Ticket sales begin April 14. The World Year of Physics celebrates the 100th anniversary of Albert Einstein's "miraculous year," the year in which he wrote the five papers that introduced new ideas and transformed the field of physics. Jefferson Lab is a physics research facility that is part of the Department of Energy's national laboratory system.
