JSA Accepting Applications for 2015-16 Graduate Fellowships
Jefferson Science Associates is currently accepting applications for graduate fellowships at Jefferson Lab for the 2015-16 academic year. Center for Theoretical and Computational Physics

In a recent paper, the deuteron quadrupole moment is calculated using two model wave functions obtained from the 2007 high-precision fits to neutron-proton scattering data within the covariant spectator theory. Included in the calculation is a new class of interaction currents automatically generated by these nuclear force models. One of these models gives a prediction in agreement to better than 1 percent (similar to a recent prediction obtained from chiral effective field theory), thus resolving a long-standing discrepancy.

Resolving ES&H Concerns
To ensure your welfare and productivity, Jefferson Lab has several mechanisms for employees, or anyone who comes into contact with the lab, to report issues potentially affecting the safety of workers, visitors, lab neighbors or the environment without fear of retaliation or reprisal. ES&H Manual Chapter 2310 lists a variety of mechanisms for resolving and reporting ES&H concerns and for preventing similar concerns from occurring in the future.
Here is a list of the options you have for resolving an ES&H concern:

• If possible, resolve the ES&H concern yourself.
• If you are unable to resolve the concern yourself, refer the concern to your supervisor  and management chain using the mechanisms outlined here.
• You may also consult your Safety Warden, Division Safety Officer, your representative to the Worker Safety Committee, or contact an ESH&Q staff member directly for any ES&H concerns you may have.
• If you would like to remain anonymous, or if you feel that it is more appropriate, use Jefferson Lab’s Employee Concerns Program.
• If one or more of the above steps have not resulted in resolution of the concern, or if you feel that it is more appropriate, you may also use the formal DOE Employee Concerns Management System hotline at 800-676-3267.
• Or use this link to the form for the DOE's Differing Professional Opinion (DPO) process also found in DOE Order 442.2 or by calling or emailing the DOE DPO Manager, Scott Davis, at 301-903-9641.

The DOE DPO process ensures that all JSA employees and contractor employees have the right to report environment, safety, and health technical concerns that have not been resolved through routine work processes.

Once your concern has been addressed, communicate any lessons learned to your staff, co-workers, supervisors and your Division Lessons Learned Coordinator. ES&H Manual Chapter 2310 offers more information on concern resolution.

Computing and Networking Infrastructure

CNI Systems Maintenance Period Set for Jan. 20, 5-7 p.m.
The IT Division's CNI group is planning a Systems Maintenance Period for Tuesday, Jan. 20,  5-7 p.m. During this time, Windows and Linux patches will be released to all desktops and servers onsite. Plan to reboot your desktop system when requested after the maintenance is complete,but no later than Friday, Jan. 23. This reboot will finalize the patch installation. Internet Explorer Update Set for Tonight to Fix Zimbra Web Client Issue
Recently, some users have reported problems using the Zimbra email web interface with Internet Explorer. Normally, the Zimbra server presents an (ajax-based) interface that has a lot of nice features. Recent versions of Internet Explorer may try to view the site in  "Compatibility View" mode, which causes the Zimbra server to present only the limited, html-only interface.

To correct this problem, the Computer Center will deliver a configuration change overnight tonight (Wednesday, Jan. 14) to Jefferson Lab Windows systems that will disable "Compatibility View" for all Jefferson Lab websites. If your Windows system is connected to the Jefferson Lab network, all you need to do is restart Internet Explorer tomorrow morning to receive this updated configuration.

This change will not affect how you view non-Jefferson Lab sites. Since this configuration change applies to all Jefferson Lab websites, not just the Zimbra server, there is a possibility that it may cause problems elsewhere. If you have problems with other sites, you may need to configure IE to use "Compatibility View" only for those sites. For instructions on adding specific websites to the "Compatibility View" list, and for more information on this issue, see https://cc.jlab.org/IECompatView. Annual Travel Workshops for Travel Coordinators and Travelers
The Annual Travel Workshop training sessions will be held during the month of February. Travel Coordinators are expected to attend a general session and all of the associated mini-workshops.
