12 GeV Upgrade

12 GeV Hall B: Non-Magnet Update
The first article is expected to arrive soon for the remaining fast electronic modules, the crate trigger processors, needed to complete the data acquisition and triggering systems for Hall B. The installation and check-out of the balance of the VXS crates and controllers together with the fiber optic networks for data and trigger data transmission is wrapping up in the hall. The construction of the upstream support structure for the Central Time of-Flight (CTOF) for the CLAS12 spectrometer has been completed, as has fabrication of most parts for its light monitoring system and of its transport crates. Refurbishment of the last of the six sectors of the Low Threshold Cerenkov Counter (LTCC) is nearly complete, with the windows being attached, after which pressure and leak tests remain. Installation of the LTCC and the Forward Time of Flight panel 2 sectors is planned for February 2016, which will complete the Forward Carriage part of CLAS12.

JSA Thesis Prize Call for Nominations
Theses completed during calendar year 2015 are eligible for the 2015 JSA Thesis Prize, as well as theses completed during the last quarter of 2014 (if they haven't been submitted before). This project is supported by the JSA Initiatives Fund Program, a commitment from the JSA owners, SURA and PAE Applied Technologies. Initiatives Funds support programs, initiatives, and activities that further the scientific outreach, promote the science, education and technology of the Jefferson Lab and benefit the Lab's extended user community in ways that complement the Lab's basic and applied research missions. Environment, Health, Safety and Quality

Resolving ES&H Concerns
To ensure your welfare and productivity, Jefferson Lab has several mechanisms for employees, or anyone who comes into contact with the lab, to report issues potentially affecting the safety of workers, visitors, lab neighbors or the environment without fear of retaliation or reprisal. ES&H Manual Chapter 2310 lists a variety of mechanisms for resolving and reporting ES&H concerns and for preventing similar concerns from occurring in the future.
Here is a list of the options you have for resolving an ES&H concern:

• If possible, resolve the ES&H concern yourself.
• If you are unable to resolve the concern yourself, refer the concern to your supervisor  and management chain using the mechanisms outlined here.
• You may also consult your Safety Warden, Division Safety Officer, your representative to the Worker Safety Committee, or contact an ESH&Q staff member directly for any ES&H concerns you may have.
• If you would like to remain anonymous, or if you feel that it is more appropriate, use Jefferson Lab’s Employee Concerns Program.
• If one or more of the above steps have not resulted in resolution of the concern, or if you feel that it is more appropriate, you may also use the formal DOE Employee Concerns Management System hotline at 800-676-3267.
• Or use this link to the form for the DOE's Differing Professional Opinion (DPO) process also found in DOE Order 442.2 or by calling or emailing the DOE DPO Manager, Scott Davis, at 301-903-9641.

The DOE DPO process ensures that all JSA employees and contractor employees have the right to report environment, safety, and health technical concerns that have not been resolved through routine work processes.

Once your concern has been addressed, communicate any lessons learned to your staff, co-workers, supervisors and your Division Lessons Learned Coordinator. ES&H Manual Chapter 2310 offers more information on concern resolution.

Computing and Networking Infrastructure

IT Maintenance Period Scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 19
The IT Division is planning a maintenance period on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 5-10 p.m. During this time, the Indico web server will be upgraded and, thus, will be offline starting around 5 p.m. It will be back up and running by 7 p.m. Also, the Zimbra web servers will be rebooted to install OS patches. Zimbra email will be inaccessible 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. while the latest OS patches are installed and systems are rebooted. Access to zimbra.jlab.org will be restored by 6:30 p.m. All of the web servers will be rebooted overnight to finalize patch installation. And numerous system services will be briefly unavailable overnight while the underlying system is rebooted to finalize OS patch installation. Updates to Firefox, Thunderbird, Flash, Adobe Reader and Shockwave will be released. Finally, Linux and Windows patches will be released to all desktops and servers managed by IT. Plan on rebooting your desktop to finalize these patch installations no later than Friday, Jan. 22. Get Jefferson Lab Emergency Contact Card
All members of the Jefferson Lab community are encouraged to carry their Jefferson Lab emergency notification and reminder card with their lab ID. The card lists the primary numbers for reporting emergencies, injuries, or any abnormal situation, as well as guidance on reporting emergencies and other situations and staying safe. The cards are available at the reception desks in the Support Service Center, Bldg. 28, and CEBAF Center.

BEAMS Seeks Volunteers for 15 Minute Role Model Visits
An important part of Jefferson Lab’s Becoming Enthusiastic About Math and Science program experience for 5th graders is the Role Model Visit; and Science Education is seeking lab volunteers to provide these 15 minute Role Model visits for the students. During a visit, a volunteer talks to a group of about 12 –15 students about his or her job, education or job training, how he or she wound up at Jefferson Lab, and the aspects of his or her job that they most enjoy, etc. Students are encouraged to ask questions, with many questions often dealing with education and career.
