Publications Refresher Course Offered March 28
Curious about the Department of Energy's Public Access Plan and how it affects Jefferson Lab? Attend the next Publications Training and Refresher course to be held on Monday, March 28, at 9 a.m. in CEBAF Center room F224-225. In addition to a brief introduction to the public access plan, authors will learn how to submit manuscripts to the Publications Review and Approval System, how to make recommended revisions to papers during the signature process, and how to add the relevant information once the paper is published. Plan to attend and R.S.V.P. to Kim Edwards by Friday, March 25.

JSA Offers Sabbatical and Research Leave Support at Jefferson Lab
JSA is now accepting applications for the JSA/JLab Sabbatical and Research Leave Support Program for the 2016-2017 academic year, with support beginning as early as summer 2016. The program is funded by the JSA Initiatives Fund. Application materials for the program are due by March 31. Visit the website for an application form and proposal requirements. Center for Theoretical and Computational Physics

A new computation of the strange-antistrange asymmetry in the proton has been performed within chiral effective theory, which includes off-shell and contact interactions, in addition to the usual kaon loop contributions with on-shell intermediate states, which were only accounted for in previous calculations. Using a regularization procedure that preserves chiral symmetry and Lorentz invariance, the analysis finds that existing data limit the integrated value of the asymmetry to the range -0.07 × 10-3(x<s-s>)≤ 1.12 × 10-3. In contrast to some suggestions in the literature, the magnitude of this correction is too small to account for the so-called NuTeV anomaly, which found an anomalously large value for the weak mixing angle.

Engineering

In the last few weeks, the Alignment group has been active in Halls A, B, C and D. Additionally, surveys have taken place in the Upgrade Injector Test Facility beamline located in the Test Lab. In Hall A, the group has carried out surveys of the spectrometers and the Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering calorimeter, as well as surveys around the Compton line. In Hall B, the group has measured the new 12 Gev Torus, assisting Hall B personnel in obtaining the best orientation of the Torus cold masses to the beamline. Also in Hall B, control work was undertaken to make sure the accelerator and hall's coordinates were current. Additionally in Hall B, the crews assisted the Hall B crews to align the supports for the Low Threshold Cherenkov Counter detectors and Panel 2 forward time of flights. Hall C work has focused on the Hall C dump and on the mapper for the Super High Momentum Spectrometer bender magnet. Beam position monitors were measured in the Hall D access line (5C). New control points have been installed and measured in the UITF cave in preparation for beamline layout and alignment.

The magnet measurement group has been working hard to set up a prototype measurement system for measuring Hall B's Torus magnet.

Volunteer Now for Jefferson Lab Open House on April 30!
Jefferson Lab will hold an open house on Saturday, April 30, from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. The event is an opportunity for people of all ages to spend the day exploring this world-class research facility. Volunteers will fill a wide range of roles - from interactive roles requiring specialized knowledge to guiding the flow of pedestrian traffic. You can work the entire event (eight hours), or a four-hour morning or afternoon shift. To volunteer, you can sign up online.

Professional Development Lunch and Learn Offered April 5
The Training and Performance Office is sponsoring a "Dale Carnegie" Lunch and Learn on Professional Development.The training session will be held on April 5 in CEBAF Center, room F113, from noon-1 p.m. Feel free to bring your lunch and join the discussion. This training is informal, is open to all employees, is free to attend, and no registration is required. The one-hour course will cover the topics of improving communication, building self-confidence, strengthening people skills, controlling worry and stress and mastering leadership skills.

Notice to All Radiation Workers
As a radiation worker with a dosimeter, Jefferson Lab annually provides you with a written dose report. You should have received an email with your 2015 dose report attached. If you did not receive an email or you noticed an error on your report, the Radiation Control Department requests that you notify Becky Mosbrucker at becky@jlab.org or call 757-269-7236. As a reminder, if you are monitored for radiation exposure at another institution, it is your responsibility to inform the Jefferson Lab Dosimetry Office by contacting Becky Mosbrucker.

Enrollment Deadline for Excel and PowerPoint Training Is March 25
Excel and Powerpoint courses have been scheduled for the week of May 23. Each class will be one day, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m, in SSC room 47 and is $175 (which may be less, based on participation). If you are interested, complete a Job-Related Training (JRT) form and send to training@jlab.org by close of business on Friday, March 25. More information about the class offerings and details needed for the JRT form can be found on Insight in the Employee Connections section under Upcoming Training Opportunities.

Jefferson Lab Community Invited to Retirement Reception for Dave Kausch on April 4
The Jefferson Lab community is invited to a retirement reception for Dave Kausch. Dave has worked in Facilities Management & Logistics (formerly Plant Engineering) for 21 years. He started as the lab's Fire Protection Engineer and also became responsible for the fixed cranes. Dave has led the development of the lab's Fire Protection and Material Handling programs to their current state. The reception will take place 2:30-4 p.m. on Monday, April 4, in CEBAF Center room F113. Come for cake, refreshments, and memories as we recognize Dave for his many years of service to the lab. Education Seeks Projects for Summer Honors Interns; Send Ideas/Proposals in by May 2
Six to eight outstanding high school students will be selected to participate in the lab's 2016 High School Summer Honors Program, which will be held at the lab June 27- Aug. 5. The students are currently in the 10th and 11th grades and have expressed interest in pursuing scientific and technical careers. Lab scientists, engineers and other technical managers who are interested in serving as a mentor and have a project to be accomplished this summer are asked to send a description of the work to Brita Hampton, x7633, by May 2. The students will be required to develop a poster about their project and present it during a poster session on the last day of their program. Research Assistantship Program Now Taking Nominations
Jefferson Lab is seeking candidates for the 2016-2017 Minority/Female Undergraduate Research Assistantship (MFURA) program. Through the MFURA program, a minority or female junior or senior level undergraduate student will work on a Jefferson Lab-related project at his or her university during the academic year. Students must be nominated by university professors with whom the students would conduct the research. Nominations will be accepted through May 2. For information on the eligibility requirements or to nominate a student, see the linked webpage. MFURA is funded by the JSA Initiatives Fund Program, a commitment from the JSA owners, SURA and PAE Applied Technologies.
