Publications Training and Refresher Course
Did you know that Jefferson Lab must submit the final, peer reviewed, accepted manuscripts to the Department of Energy? See the link for information on how to do this or come to the next Publications Training and Refresher course on Thursday, July 14, at 2 p.m. in CEBAF Center room F224-225. In this session, authors will learn how to submit manuscripts to the Publications Review and Approval System, how to make recommended revisions to papers during the signature process, and how to add the relevant information once the paper is published. Center for Theoretical and Computational Physics
A new Theory Center paper discusses the feasibility of detecting the pentaquark-like structure, observed recently by the LHCb Collaboration at CERN, in photoproduction with the CLAS12 detector. The estimates show that the cross section is likely to be sizable, within the reach of Jefferson Lab experiments. This would shed further light on the nature of the Pc(4450) peak.

Resolving ES&H Concerns
To ensure your welfare and productivity, Jefferson Lab has several mechanisms for employees, or anyone who comes into contact with the lab, to report issues potentially affecting the safety of workers, visitors, lab neighbors or the environment without fear of retaliation or reprisal. ES&H Manual Chapter 2310 lists a variety of mechanisms for resolving and reporting ES&H concerns and for preventing similar concerns from occurring in the future.
Here is a list of the options you have for resolving an ES&H concern:
- If possible, resolve the ES&H concern yourself.
- If you are unable to resolve the concern yourself, refer the concern to your supervisor and management chain using the mechanisms outlined here.
- You may also consult your Safety Warden, Division Safety Officer, your representative to the Worker Safety Committee, or contact an ESH&Q staff member directly for any ES&H concerns you may have.
- If you would like to remain anonymous, or if you feel that it is more appropriate, use Jefferson Lab’s Employee Concerns Program.
- If one or more of the above steps have not resulted in resolution of the concern, or if you feel that it is more appropriate, you may also use the formal DOE Employee Concerns Management System hotline at 800-676-3267.
- Or use this link to the form for the DOE's Differing Professional Opinion (DPO) process also found in DOE Order 442.2 or by calling or emailing the DOE DPO Manager, Scott Davis, at 301-903-9641.
The DOE DPO process ensures that all JSA employees and contractor employees have the right to report environment, safety, and health technical concerns that have not been resolved through routine work processes.
Once your concern has been addressed, communicate any lessons learned to your staff, co-workers, supervisors and your Division Lessons Learned Coordinator. ES&H Manual Chapter 2310 offers more information on concern resolution.

Symantec Antivirus Update and Required Reboot
Due to a recently discovered Symantec Antivirus vulnerability, Symantec has released an out-of-cycle emergency update. The CNI group has already released the update to all Windows desktops in order to update the Symantec client. However, for the update to be effective, the system must be rebooted. Plan to reboot your system by COB Friday, July 8. In order to ensure that your desktop and the site is protected, all systems that don't reboot by COB Friday will be rebooted after 5 p.m. on Friday, whether you are logged in or not. July 21 Symposium to Honor Claus Rode
On Thursday, July 21, Jefferson Lab will hold a symposium titled: Project Highlights from 50 Years in the DOE Office of Science: A scientific symposium in honor of Claus Rode. The symposium will highlight a selection of high-profile projects completed in the Department of Energy’s Office of Science over the past 50 years. The character and execution of scientific projects evolved significantly during this time. This period covers the distinguished career of Claus Rode, who was involved in all of the projects to be discussed, while working at several Office of Science laboratories. The Jefferson Lab community is invited to attend; reservations are required. Individuals planning to attend, who haven’t yet R.S.V.P.’d, are asked to email Pat Stroop at stroop@jlab.org no later than close of business on July 14. The symposium is scheduled for 3-5:30 p.m. on July 21 in the CEBAF Center auditorium and will be followed by a reception in the lobby.
Retirement Reception for Lyn Wells Set for July 18
Members of the lab community are invited to a reception honoring Lyn and her 27 years of service to the lab. The event will take place Monday, July 18, 3-5 p.m., in CEBAF Center room F113. Everyone is invited to share fond memories, anecdotes, or that special photo with Lyn, along with some cake and light refreshments. Send photos, memories/anecdotes or other celebrations of Lyn to Krystina Serafini at serafini@jlab.org no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, July 15.
Red Cross Blood Drive Scheduled for Tuesday, August 16
The next American Red Cross Blood Drive will take place Tuesday, August 16, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in CEBAF Center room F113. Hall C Safety Awareness Training Updated: Current Training Expires Sept. 1
Due to the new configuration of Hall C, the Safety Awareness Training for the hall, SAF112, has been updated. This training will expire on Sept. 1 for anyone who last completed this training before May 1, 2016. To take the updated training, first read the document. Then, sign up for a walk-through, which is conducted on Tuesdays at 2 p.m., by contacting Joe Beaufait at x7131 or beaufait@jlab.org.
