12 GeV Upgrade

Everybody involved with the Hall C portion of the 12 GeV Upgrade Project rejoiced when the Department of Energy concurred that the Hall C Key Performance Parameter (KPP) had been demonstrated several weeks ago. Achievement of this milestone marked the conclusion of years of R&D, design, construction, installation and testing for the Hall C upgrade. The accelerator had delivered high-energy electrons for this KPP run, during which experimenters worked feverishly to collect and analyze data and report the results. Thanks to the intense installation work of the previous several months, Hall C was ready for beam delivery as planned. Timely completion of this objective was possible only due to the coordinated efforts of work groups from across the laboratory. Attention has now turned to preparation of the final project documentation and closing-out the earned-value-management and financial aspects of the Hall C 12 GeV Project. This material, documenting full Hall C scope completion, will be presented at the review to be conducted by DOE's Office of Project Assessment on May 10-11.

Center for Theoretical and Computational Physics

Recently, it has been demonstrated that light-front parton distribution functions and generalized parton distributions can be related to so-called quasi-distributions, which can be calculated nonperturbatively directly using lattice Quantum Chromodynamics, formulated in Euclidean spacetime. This relation is based on the basic assumption that the quasi-distributions obtained using Euclidean correlation functions coincide with those obtained from their Minkowski counterparts, which was recently brought into question. Now, new work has shown that quasi-distributions are indeed identical in Euclidean and Minkowski spacetimes.

Resolving ES&H Concerns
To ensure the welfare and productivity of its workforce, Jefferson Lab has several mechanisms for employees, to report issues potentially affecting the safety of workers, visitors, neighbors and the environment, without fear of retaliation or reprisal. ES&H Manual Chapter 2310 ES&H Concern Resolution lists a variety of mechanisms for resolving and reporting ES&H concerns. Here is a list of the options for resolving an ES&H concern:

  • If possible, resolve the ES&H concern yourself;
  • If you are unable to resolve the concern, refer the concern to your supervisor or management chain;
  • Consult with your Safety Warden, Division Safety Officer, a representative of the Worker Safety Committee, or contact an ESH&Q staff member directly;
  • If you would like to remain anonymous, or if you feel that it is more appropriate, use the Jefferson Lab Employee Concerns Program;
  • If one or more of the above steps have not resulted in resolution of the concern, you may also use the formal DOE Employee Concerns Management System hotline at 800-676-3267; or the DOE Differing Professional Opinion Process.

Once your concern has been addressed, communicate any lessons learned to the Jefferson Lab Lessons Learned Coordinator.
