12 GeV Upgrade

At the request of DOE's Office of Nuclear Physics, Stephen Meador, Director of the Office of Project Assessment in DOE's Office of Science, convened a team of six experts and six observers for a Status Review of the 12 GeV CEBAF Upgrade Project at Jefferson Lab held May 10-11. The purpose of the review was to evaluate the project’s readiness for approval of Critical Decision 4B (CD-4B), Project Completion, by Sept. 30. The review team found that the Project’s scope is complete, with the exception of the Hall B Solenoid. The review team congratulated all team members working in support of the 12 GeV Upgrade Project on the “real and substantial progress” since the review held last October and provided two recommendations in the Closeout Report.

Radiation Control Department Contact Information Update
Summer is always a busy time for Radiation Control Department training requests, and the department currently has reduced resources available for training. Note the following changes to key points of contact for RadCon support:

  • To schedule a Radworker-I practical factors appointment, contact David Hamlette at 757-876-1743 or hamlette@jlab.org. Remember, practicals are by appointment only.
  • To schedule a classroom training event (for groups of new-hire radiation workers), contact Keith Welch at 757-269-7212 or welch@jlab.org.

For any other training or dosimetry needs this summer, contact Keith Welch or Becky Mosbrucker at 757-269-7236 or becky@jlab.org. RadControl staff appreciates your assistance.

Computing and Networking Infrastructure

New Wireless Network, Eduroam, Now Available
Jefferson Lab has joined eduroam, a global federation of WiFi networks that gives Jefferson Lab staff and users easy WiFi access at participating institutions worldwide. To use eduroam when visiting a participating institution, select the "eduroam" wireless network and log in with your Jefferson Lab email address (username@jlab.org) and password. Conversely, wireless access for Jefferson Lab visitors from other eduroam institutions is now available by selecting the "eduroam" wireless network and using their home institution email address and password; no Jefferson Lab account or guest network key is needed. For a complete list of participating sites, visit the link.

Announcements

Test of Public Address System Set for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 18
On Thursday, May 18, members of the Jefferson Lab Emergency Management Team will conduct the recurring test of the lab’s Public Address (PA) System – the live audible announcement feature – available through the Cisco phones. No actions are required or expected from members of the lab community with this test. The test interrupts any in-progress call on a Cisco phone, with active calls automatically put on “hold.” For more information, see the full announcement.
