Publications Training and Refresher Course Offered Sept. 27
The next Publications Training and Refresher course will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 3:30 p.m. in CEBAF Center room F228. Center for Theoretical and Computational Physics
A new paper presents the first lattice QCD study of coupled isoscalar ππ, KK and ηη S- and D-wave scattering extracted from discrete finite-volume spectra using a value of the quark mass corresponding to mπ ~ 391 MeV. In the JP=0+ sector, the study finds analogues of the experimental σ and f0(980) states, where the σ appears as a stable bound-state below the ππ threshold, and, similar to what is seen in experiment, the f0(980)manifests itself as a dip in the ππ cross section in the vicinity of the KK threshold. For JP= 2+, two states are found resembling the f2(1270) and f'2(1525), observed as narrow peaks, with the lighter state dominantly decaying to ππ and the heavier state to KK.
Engineering
The Electrical Systems group continued to support ongoing maintenance in the CEBAF accelerator with work on the trim magnet system, the RF separators, an upgrade to the East Arc dump controls and repairs to the Personnel Safety System video system.
Vacuum and installation support to prepare for testing LCLS-II cryomodules in the Low Energy Recirculation Facility continued, as did the installation of the new C50-13 crymodule in the North Linac of CEBAF. The Metrology group continued survey work in the halls to support upcoming operations, as well as LCLS-II cryomodule alignment tasks and magnet maintenance in the accelerator.
A tour of Jefferson Lab and meeting for the Old Dominion University School of Engineering staff was hosted by Tim Michalski. This is a continuation of a possible collaboration to engage ODU students and faculty on the Jefferson Lab Electron-Ion Collider initiative and other engineering projects. Two engineers participated in the FS2D3 Facility for Rare Isotope Beams Magnet Design Review held at Michigan State University.

Security to Test Jefferson Lab’s Active Threat Alert Notification System on Aug. 31
At 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31, Security personnel will conduct a test of Jefferson Lab’s Active Threat Alert Notification System. Like the Site-Wide-Alert System, the test message will be sent over the lab’s email, pagers/text and on the Cisco phone digital screens. No response will be expected, as this is only an operational test of the system. Reminder: Office 2016 Available to Install for Windows Systems
Users of Office 2010 and earlier should consider upgrading to Office 2016. In order to install the new version, go to Programs and Features in the Control Panel. From there, go to the 'Install a program from the network' and select the Office 2016 option. Click Install. Note that Office 2003 is no longer supported and that Office 2007 will stop being supported in October 2017. In addition, Office 2010 support ends in a few years (2020). If you have any questions or concerns before doing the update, contact the IT Division Help Desk at helpdesk@jlab.org or x7155.

JSA presented its fiscal year 2016 small business award to a small construction services firm from Hampton Roads. Shoreline Industries has been a subcontractor at Jefferson Lab for more than 20 years and has successfully completed a large number of projects for the lab. Read more here.
Jefferson Lab to Test Tornado Warning Siren at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 1
Jefferson Lab's tornado warning siren will undergo its monthly operational test at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 1. Don't respond to the siren; this is a test of the siren system and not a personnel response exercise. If this test were an actual Tornado Warning, the SWA system messages and siren would direct you to take cover immediately in a Severe Wind Take Cover area.
Last Chance to Volunteer for United Way Day of Caring
The 2017 United Way Day of Caring for the Virginia Peninsula will take place Wednesday, Sept. 6. Several health and human services organizations throughout Hampton Roads will benefit from the hard work and generous efforts of volunteers for numerous projects. Jefferson Lab is offering employees the opportunity to volunteer for these efforts. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up by the Aug. 30 deadline. See the full memo for information.
