Property Management is Clearing Lab Bike Racks of Dilapidated and Abandoned Bikes
Property Management staff will be clearing all bikes that appear to be abandoned or are dilapidated from the bike racks located around the lab. Clearing the abandoned and unusable bikes will make it easier for individuals who are or would like to use their bikes to find space to park their bikes. They have started by removing a number of bikes (rusting, flat tires, etc.) from the bike rack at the entrance to the TED Building, Bldg. 55. Over the next couple weeks, all of the other bike racks will be checked for dilapidated and unusable bikes. The bikes will be held in the Central Material Storage Area (CMSA) for 30 days. After that, any unclaimed bikes will be put on the federal government’s Excess Property website and sold as surplus property. Know your Safety Signs - Part Two

Jefferson Lab safety signs depict specific hazards through color codes based on standards set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Here are some examples of signs that communicate specific safety hazards on-site:

• Yellow background with purple (magenta) = Radioactive material (OSHA);
• Green with white text = First aid kits and related equipment (ISO);
• White with red text = Egress/Exit routes and doors (OSHA and ANSI); and
• Red with white text = Fire safety protocols (NFPA and ANSI).

Remember, legible signage, labels, tags and markings are a mandatory part of a secure work environment. Employees, Users, vendors and subcontractors all benefit from clear, easy-to-read signs.

Computing and Networking Infrastructure

IT Begins Support for MacOS 10.12 (Sierra)
On Aug. 14, the IT Division will begin site-wide support for MacOS 10.12 (Sierra). Users who do not require an MFA token to log in to their computer will be free to update to MacOS 10.12 via the App Store or by submitting a CCPR. If you require an MFA token to log in and would like to upgrade to MacOS 10.12, you will need to submit a CCPR to have a member of the IT Division staff assist you. As a reminder, beta and pre-releases of newer operating systems are prohibited on Jefferson Lab-owned machines. Announcements

Test of Public Address System Set for 5:30 p.m. Today
On Wednesday, Aug. 2, members of the Jefferson Lab Emergency Management Team will conduct the recurring test of the lab’s Public Address (PA) System – the live audible announcement feature – available through the Cisco phones. No actions are required or expected from members of the lab community with this test. The test interrupts any in-progress call on a Cisco phone, with active calls automatically put on “hold.” For more information, see the full announcement.

Lab Community Invited to Summer Interns Poster Session on Aug. 4
All members of the Jefferson Lab community are invited to attend the 2017 Summer Interns Poster Session on Friday, Aug. 4, 11:45 a.m.-2 p.m. in the CEBAF Center lobby. More than two dozen interns from the Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships and the Research Experiences for Undergraduates programs will be presenting posters they developed on their work or research projects.

Attention All Travel Coordinators and Travelers: Updated Travel Policy
Travel Policy 402.03.A.1 Travel Arrangements and Reimbursable Expenses has been updated. The changes address travel arrangements made outside the normal travel dates to meet the business need or from locations other than the three local airports, for either business or personal reasons. Travel Services will hold a training session at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 7, in CEBAF Center room F113. This session is open to both Travel Coordinators and Travelers. Staff Completes Move to New ESH&Q Building
For years, Jefferson Lab’s ESH&Q Division staff members were scattered to some of the farthest corners of the lab. The recent completion of a new 12,000-plus square ft. building, located just outside of the Accelerator Site entrance, has changed that. Read more here.

Jefferson Lab to Test Tornado Warning Siren at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4
Jefferson Lab's tornado warning siren will undergo its monthly operational test at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4. Don't respond to the siren; this is a test of the siren system and not a personnel response exercise. Individuals planning to be in the Central Materials Storage Area (where the siren is located) while the test is taking place must have with them and wear two layers of hearing protection.

Physics Images Posted for Coloring Enthusiasts
PhysicsCentral, the web communications site of the American Physical Society, is putting together a coloring book for physics aficionados of all ages. According to the site, the coloring pages will “feature some of the most interesting and intricate images straight from the pages of the American Physical Society's journals” and other sources. The first two published pages are now available for download from the site.
