Center for Theoretical and Computational Physics

A new Theory Center paper models the production mechanism of πΔ photoproduction at Jefferson Lab energies, which is currently under analysis by the GlueX collaboration, and provides insight into the peculiar behavior of pion exchange at high energies. In combination with similar studies by the JPAC collaboration, this work is a step closer towards a complete understanding of the production mechanism in peripheral photoproduction processes at Jefferson Lab.

VDOT Reminds Drivers to Watch for Deer on Roads
Through December, the Virginia Department of Transportation reminds all motorists to watch for deer on and near roads, since this is the time of year that deer tend to be moving about in the early morning and into the evening. VDOT offers these tips to avoid hitting a deer:
  • Deer generally travel in groups – if you see one deer near or on the road, watch out for others nearby;
  • Deer are creatures of habit – if you see them in a certain spot, expect to see them again in that vicinity;
  • Drive the speed limit or reduce your speed when you see deer-warning signs;
  • Be on the lookout for deer at any time, but especially between dusk and dawn; and
  • Use bright headlights when possible and appropriate.
If you see injured animals on Jefferson Lab property, report the situation to Mike Lewellen at x7169, and after hours to Security at 269-5822. For more information, see the full VDOT release.

United Way Pledge Campaign Ends Nov. 6
There’s less than one week left to show your support for our communities by donating to the annual United Way of the Virginia Peninsula campaign. Your contribution to the United Way, no matter the sum, provides critical services and supplies to those in need in our community. After-school programs, affordable daycare, transportation for the elderly, hospice care, job training for the less fortunate and even food and shelter are just some of the benefits that result from your donations. All pledge forms should be returned to Krystina Patrick, Mail Stop 12B, CEBAF Center Room B214 by Monday, Nov. 6. See the full memo for a link to the form and more information.

Individuals planning to be in the Central Materials Storage Area (where the siren is located) while the test is taking place must have with them and wear two layers of hearing protection.

Veterans: Last Chance to Participate in Recognition Display
In recognition of Veterans Day, veterans of military service are invited to submit a photo of themselves in uniform for inclusion in a collage to be displayed in CEBAF Center prior to Veterans Day. This will be similar to the one displayed the past years. If you submitted a photo in the past, the photo will be used again this year with the information you previously provided. If you want to submit a new photo, feel free to do so. Submit photos to Mike Robbins by Nov. 3. Remember to include your full name, branch of service, and years of service. If you do not have a digital copy of your photo, employees can bring in a picture to CEBAF Center, room C222 to be scanned. For more information, contact Mike Robbins at mrobbins@jlab.org or x7617.
