Personal Dosimeter Changeout to Begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 22
Jefferson Lab's semi-annual personal dosimeter changeout will take place starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 22. All staff, students, users and subcontractors are asked to place dosimeters in their assigned placed in the personal dosimeter racks no later than 10 a.m. on Dec. 22. If you need to use your dosimeter during the changeout period on Dec. 22, bring your dosimeter to the conference room (Room #9) in the ESH&Q Building (#52) no later than 9:45 a.m. that day. Enter the building through the front door.

If you are leaving before Dec. 22 for an extended holiday break, be sure to put your dosimeter in its designated place in the racks before departing. Questions may be directed to Becky Mosbrucker, Radiation Control, x7236.

Computing and Networking Infrastructure

IT Division Maintenance Period Set for Tuesday, Dec. 19
The IT Division is planning a maintenance period for 5-10 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 19. During this time, all MIS applications will be down while patches are applied to the backend databases; plan your work accordingly. There will be a few short network outages while systems are updated and rebooted. Also, Windows and Linux patches will be released to all Jefferson Lab-managed desktops and server systems. Overnight, some services may have a short outage while the underlying server is rebooted to finalize patch installation. Additionally, the www.jlab.org website will be down while an update is applied to the web servers. Finally, updates to core Common User Environment software will be delivered to all managed systems. Plan now to reboot your desktop no later than Friday, Dec. 22, to finalize patch installation. Revamped Jefferson Lab Website Launch Nears
The Jefferson Lab Communications Office has been working with staff members from across the laboratory on its efforts to unveil a refreshed website with new content and easier navigation. The website focus groups have now reviewed a test version of the site, and rollout of the new design is anticipated in the next two weeks. Once the new site goes live, be sure to look for the "Sign In" link in the upper right corner of the new site: Signing in via this link with your Jefferson Lab username and password will ensure you can see all content and links on the new site, whether it's aimed at the public, staff members or scientific users. Two TIAA-CREF Individual Counseling Sessions Available Tomorrow, Dec. 14
TIAA-CREF is offering Individual Counseling Sessions at Jefferson Lab, where you can discuss your personal financial situation with a consultant on a confidential basis. The consultant will be available to discuss how to help you achieve your financial goals by investing in financial solutions, such as mutual funds, brokerage, life insurance and annuities. To schedule an appointment for Dec. 14, call TIAA-CREF at (800) 732-8353, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.–8 p.m. These appointments will be held in Support Service Center room 221.

Fitness Center Now Open For Use 24/7
Jefferson Lab’s Fitness Center, located in Room 2558 in the Technology and Engineering Development Building (Bldg. 55), is now open for use 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For more information, see the full memo.

L’Oréal Offers Grants to Outstanding Postdoctoral Women
The L’Oréal USA For Women in Science fellowship program honors female postdoctoral scientists with grants of $60,000 each. The program is currently seeking five exceptional female scientists looking to advance their research and serve as role models for the next generation of girls in STEM. Red Cross Blood Drive Set for Jan. 5
According to the American Red Cross, an estimated 38 percent of the population is eligible to give blood, but only about eight percent of those eligible actually donate. The next Red Cross Blood Drive will take place at Jefferson Lab Friday, Jan. 5, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in CEBAF Center, room F113. New and repeat donors are encouraged to attend. Walk-ins are welcome. Participants will receive a long sleeved T-shirt from the Red Cross. For eligibility and scheduling information, see the memo.

Mobile Mammography Unit Onsite Jan. 19, 2018
The Chesapeake Regional Mobile Mammography Unit will be stationed in the ARC parking lot on Jan. 19, 2018. Appointments will be available during the hours of 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Mammography detects breast cancer, and The American Cancer Society recommends scheduling your first or baseline mammogram by age 40. This service is open to everyone, as personal health insurances will be billed. To make an appointment, call (757) 312-6400 or visit the website at www.chesapeakemammo.com.
